Presentation title：An X-ray 3D microscopy and its applications in bio and medical areas

Abstract：X-ray 3D microscopy, also called computed tomography (CT), can reveal the internal details of objects in three dimensions non-destructively. We outline the basic principles of CT and describe the process of CT scanning. Whereas CT is widely used in medical and heavy industrial contexts at relatively low resolutions, here we focus on the application of higher resolution X-ray CT across science and engineering. We consider the application of X-ray CT to study subjects across the biological, medical, materials, engineering sciences. We examine how CT can be used to follow the structural evolution of materials in three dimensions in a time-lapse manner, for example to follow the failure behavior of materials.

Biography

Graduated from Centre for Nanotechnology and Micro-engineering, University of Warwick (UK) with PhD degree. Specialist in the areas of nano metrology and microscopies, such as AFM and X-ray 3D microscope technologies. Over 20 year’s industry experience in new technology and product development of ultra precision positioning systems and metrology instrumentation in world leading companies. The professional positions including: CTO at nPoint Inc (USA), Director of Engineering at Xradia Inc (USA), Sir engineer at KLA-Tencor Inc (UK), etc.  Many year’s academic research experience at universities, with the positions of professor of Tianjin University, professor of Guangdong Univ. of Technology. As a PI, successfully finished over ten government research contracts with the funding of over 20 million USD from both US government and Chinese government totally. Funders of 2 high-tech companies, Sanying Motion Control Technologies Ltd (A tech leading company for nanomotion control technology) and Sanying Precision Instruments Ltd ( A tech leading company for Micro and Nano 3D x-ray microscopes and x-ray imaging systems).
